It's used when this word acts as a standalone noun or when referring to a number without directly modifying another noun. For example: `El resultado es veintiuno` - The result is twenty-one. In contrast, `veintiún` is used when the word precedes and modifies a masculine noun. For example: `Tengo veintiún años` - I'm twenty-one years old. Note that the word `veintiún` has an accent mark in the letter `u`.
